Building Blocks for a Book

You have an idea for a book that you're yearning to put in writing but you don't know how or where to start. The "Building Blocks for a Book" package will help you through the earliest stages of transforming your story idea into a book. I will help you clarify your point and purpose, refine your story idea and structure, pinpoint your ideal reader, understand the market for your genre, and practice writing connecting scenes. I’ll provide a template and tools you can use to create a compelling foundation whether you've started writing or not. This package includes detailed feedback on your outline, a written summary with next steps, and a one-hour 1:1 Zoom call to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Manuscript Review & Refinement

Let's say you have a whole manuscript and you're wondering if it's ready to be published or needs more work. The "Manuscript Review & Refinement" package offers a developmental edit of your book based on your goals and intentions to publish. This is not a line or copy edit for grammar or punctuation. This is a big-picture assessment designed to strengthen your story structure, voice, and narrative flow. I will evaluate your manuscript in terms of writing style and tone related to genre and provide detailed next steps for moving forward. In addition to detailed written feedback, this package includes a one-hour 1:1 coaching call to answer your questions and help you navigate and prioritize next steps.

The Pitch

You've written several drafts, received feedback from trusted readers, and you've decided your manuscript is complete and ready to be published. You're dreaming about seeing it on bookstore and library shelves. But you're not sure if you want to self-publish, seek a hybrid publishing arrangement, or go the traditional publishing route and submit your story to a literary agent. The "Pitch" package will help you decide by clarifying the publishing marketplace and your options for choosing the right path. If you're seeking an literary agent, you'll get guidance on preparing your story synopsis and query letter. This package includes a targeted list of literary agents or publishers to pitch to that is curated for your book, evaluation and feedback on your synopsis and query letter, and a one-hour 1:1 coaching call to answer your questions and help you develop a comprehensive pitch strategy.

Built into All Packages: Accountability & Support

Built into all of the above packages are tips, strategies, and tools to help you stay motivated, move forward, and maintain momentum to achieve your publishing goals. As your book coach, I'll help motivate you to show up and do your best work and encourage you to silence the voices—internal and external—that make you doubt yourself or derail your intentions. Together, we’ll work on what it takes to keep you on your publishing journey. And then, we'll celebrate together!

Other Editing Services

Line Editing

This is a sentence-level review addressing the quality and style of sentences. It focuses on word choice, sentence structure, and flow of language. It’s for a manuscript that’s complete, well-organized, and effectively structured. Line editors tighten the writing, increase clarity, and ensure that the language communicates the author’s ideas in the most effective and compelling way.

Copyediting

This may overlap with line editing, but it’s chiefly concerned with correcting problems related to grammar and punctuation and with making all elements conform to a particular style guideline.

Proofreading

This is the last stage in the manuscript review process. It is performed on a fully edited, copyedited, designed, formatted, and printed version of a book. The proofreader not only looks for typos and typesetting issues and sometimes fixes problems not caught in copyediting, but also corrects problems in headers, page numbering, and line breaks.

Other Editing Services Pricing

Line Editing/Copyediting/Proofreading: $75 per hour

Synopsis & Query Letter Edit: $150
